RBI Retail Direct Gilt Account allows retail investors to buy and sell government securities through the online portal. This scheme facilitates investment in government securities by an individual by opening a gilt securities account with the RBI.

The account opened will be called Retail Direct Gilt (RDG) Account.


RDG Account

Under the scheme, investors would have to open and maintain the Retail Direct Gilt Account (RDG) with RBI. It allows individuals to buy government securities directly in the primary market as well as a secondary market.

The online portal will offer an account statement showing transaction history and balance position of securities holding in the Retail Direct Gilt Account.

Who can open the RDG account?

A retail investor can open the account if they have the following:

1. Saving bank account maintained in India.

2. PAN issued by the Income Tax Department.

3. Valid email ID

4. Registered mobile number

5. Having an official document such as Aadhaar, Voter ID.

RDG account can be opened individually as well as jointly with another investor.


Charges for opening RDG Account

No fee will be charged for opening and maintaining an RDG account.

Process

The investor needs to fill up detail such as name, email id,  PAN, mobile number etc.

OTP authentication of the mobile number & email id is done.

A tracking number is allotted.

The KYC verification process of investors is carried out.

The bank account of the investor is verified.

After the process is completed, the RDG account is opened.
